2020 Chevy Blazer

When Chevrolet slaps the Blazer name on their SUVs, it does so knowing the expectations that come with the name. After all, the Blazer has a rich and storied past, over time becoming a marquee model in the Chevy stable. It is a joy to report then that the 2020 Chevrolet Blazer continues to impress, much like its predecessors, but not in the way you’d think.

The Turbo Twist

The base 1 and 1LT models continue with the naturally-aspirated 2.5-litre I4 engine from the 2019 Blazer. Also returning for 2020 is the excellent 3.6-litre V6 as standard on the RS and Premier trims. For some, the 193 horsepower 2.5-litre engine lacked the oomph needed to back the Blazer’s rugged looks. The V6 is an excellent option, delivering 308 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque, but upgrading to the V6 meant shelling out for a higher trim.

Chevy must have heard their customers loud-and-clear because new for 2020 is the option for a 2.0-litre turbocharged I4, available with the 2LT and 3LT trims. The 230 hp engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic and delivers a solid 258 lb-ft of torque. Delivering more power that the 2.5-litre I4 and better fuel economy than the V6, Chevy might have just hit the sweet-spot with this turbocharged beauty.

While the 1 and 1LT models come with FWD only, the 2LT and 3LT trims lets you choose not only between between the 2.0 turbo and V6 engines but also between FWD and AWD. AWD comes standard with the RS and the fully-loaded Premium trims. Really smart move by Chevrolet as it makes sure there’s a Blazer for every need and every budget.
